The achievements of Maureen FitzSimons as a young performer in America (which we refer to as Maureen O'Hara today) would have definitely put her into the category of child prodigies. A child of Irish roots, surrounded as she was by gifted parents, and her family did this naturally. Maureen was born in Ranelagh an area in Dublin - Ireland on 17 August 1920. Marguerita Lilburn fitzSimons' mother was an contralto. Charles FitzSimons managed a Dublin-based firm and also owned a stake of "The Shamrock Rovers," an eminent Irish soccer squad. Maureen FitzSimons' is the 2nd FitzSimons children. Peggy FitzSimons Florrie Charles B. Fitzsimons Margot Fitzsimons James O'Hara made up this family. Maureen enjoyed playing athletic games as a child and excelled at sports. Her passion was coupled with a natural talent for performance. The fact that she was awarded nearly all Feis awards for her native nation's theatre and drama proved the fact that she was a natural performer. At age fourteen, she was admitted into the Abbey Theater, where her ambition was to study operatic singing and classical theater.
